Making Good Men Better
For Over 150 Years

WHAT IS FREEMASONRY?

Ancient Free and Accepted Masonry, a.k.a. Freemasonry, is the world’s oldest and largest fraternity, with Brothers of every nationality, religion, and station. Many people remember an uncle, grandfather, or even their own father grabbing their apron and ring and heading out to the local meetings. Throughout the years it has been the target of a variety of speculations and accusations, but at its heart, it is simply a Brotherhood of men.

Masonry does not require one to subscribe to any specific religion or political leaning, nor does it attempt to influence them; instead Masons follow the simple tenets of brotherly love, relief of the distressed, and truth. By joining Masonry, we are presented with the opportunity to meet outstanding men of all walks of life and connect with them in hopes of improving ourselves and our communities.

Masonry does not take bad men and attempt to reform them; as a fraternity, we admit men who live their lives with honor and integrity and who wish to improve themselves, their communities, and their fellow man.

OUR HISTORY

Boulder Lodge #14 was established in 2018 as a result of combining Columbia Lodge #14 and Boulder Lodge #45, both of which were operating since the late 1800s as separate entities within the city of Boulder, Colorado.

Columbia Lodge #14 was granted dispensation on December 17, 1866, being sponsored by Black Hawk Lodge #11, continuously meeting and serving since January 3rd, 1867. Their charter was issued by the Grand Lodge of Colorado on October 8, 1867. Since moving from Columbia City (known today as Ward) to Boulder in 1868, the Lodge played a significant role in the early growth of Boulder, the University of Colorado, our state, and the Rocky Mountain region, with members worldwide.

Boulder Lodge #45 was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Colorado on September 21, 1881.

In 1884, the two Lodges began holding joint events and joint installations of officers, a practice that continued up to when the Lodges merged.

In 2017, the leadership and members of both Lodges explored the viability of merging the two Lodges for the benefit of both. As a result of these discussions, Boulder Lodge #14 was chartered as a single Lodge in 2018.

Becoming a Freemason

Many men do not understand the process of acquiring membership in a Masonic Lodge. No one is ever coerced to become a Mason or to join a Masonic Lodge. Though all morally good men would be welcome in any Masonic Lodge, the man himself must decide whether or not he wishes to become a member.

Once you have decided to join, you can request an application, called by our Lodges a petition, as your first step towards membership. You must have two Masons who know you to sign your petition, vouching for your character and qualifications, and receive the approval of the members of the Lodge to which you apply.
